Rota Teq®
Generic Name: 5 live reassortant rotaviruses
Therapeutic Category: Rotavirus Vaccine
Indication: For the prevention of rotavirus gastroenteritis in infants and children caused by the serotypes G1, G2, G3, and G4 when administered as a 3-dose series to infants between the ages of 2 to 32 weeks.
Pregnancy: no data available
Manufacturer: MERCK & CO., INC.
Dosage form: 2 mL suspension for oral use.
Side effects: (the most common) bronchiolitis, gastroenteritis, pneumonia, fever, urinary tract infection. (Read drug prescription for more details)
NOTE:
• Prior to administration of Rota Teq, the health care provier should determine the current health status and previoys vaccination history of the infant.
• Febrile illness may be reason for delaying use of Rota Teq except when the opinion of the phusician, withholding the vaccine entails a greater risk.
• As with any vaccine, vaccination with Rota Teq may not result in complete protection on all recipients.
• No safety or efficacy data are available for the administration of Rota Teq to infants who are potentially immunocompromised.
